Well just a little over 8 weeks before the international tournament that we have all been waiting for, the IIHF World Championship Mens Div3.
Last held in Cape Town in 2002 with great support and a tremendous turn out of South African and Jewish supporters and this April will prove to be even bigger and better.
With a large group of members and professionals tackling tasks to ensure a smooth and professional tournament, unlike we have been to in the past, I am sure that all who ventured to Armenia wish they had rather stayed at home... Although it did allow us to appreciate what we have right here at home.
So with the transport, accommodation and other logistics being taken care of by the wp committee, head coach Ronnie wood is looking after the 49 man squad that is being cut down any day now to 30 strong.
These 30 players will have an even harder time trying to make the final team that is being announced after the two selection All Star games in Cape Town on 20 and 21 March 2011.
These games will take place in front of local capacity crowds as in the normal All Star format also to get the players use to playing under pressure.
We can expect massive showcases and skills from all players as each and everyone of them will be fighting for their spot on the team.
At present all players are working themselves to the bone with ample ice time during the week, additional skating conditioning sessions, gym workouts and the latest mma craze of cross-fit training.
And all this leaves the general consensus that this SA Team will be the fittest and most conditioned team that SA has seen yet.
More updates to come. See ya on the ice
